How do I take care of my hat?

We are typically people that do not wash their hats.  The blood (hopefully a tuna’s, not yours), and saltwater stains are part of the story that the hat tells.  However, as we got older (and married), we were told that there are times that hats need to be washed.  The good news is that Navis hats can be easily washed, and we suggest you follow these tips and tricks:

  1. Check again: Does it really need to be cleaned or is the story too good? 
  2. Wipe it down: Use a damp cloth to lightly knock off dirt and surface stuff.
  3. Use soap: Hit the stains with mild soap (we recommend Dawn) and fresh water. Nothing fancy. Pro move: test on a small, hidden area first.  Just in case that mild soap isn’t very mild.
  4. Air dry: Let it dry on its own or wear it while it dries.  It doesn’t matter either way.  It is an inanimate hat.
Why the name “Navis”?  Why the anchor symbol?

Navis is Latin for “boat”, "ship", or “vessel.” It showed up everywhere in classical Latin: trade routes, sea battles, etc.  It also shows up in English: Navigate. Navy. Naval. Nautical. If the word has anything to do with moving on water, there's a good chance Navis is somewhere in its roots.  We also like how it looks.

The primary purpose of an anchor is to provide a secure connection to the seabed, just like the Tenstrap provides a secure connection to your head.  We are designing new graphics and they will eventually find themselves on the future hat collections.

What if the Tenstrap™ is too tight, or loose?

Easily adjust tension using the cordlock located at the back of the hat.

What is the return policy?

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know at Tim@navisgear.com and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.

When will I get my order?

We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is calculated based on your location and the items in your order. You will always know the shipping price before you purchase.

Does the hat only work for going fast on boats?

Nope!  We have also tested these hats while hiking, skiing, e-biking, storm-watching, offroading, surfing, Jeep-riding, golfing, paddle boarding, beaching, wakesurfing, sailing, convertible-driving, Costco running, and just living life.  Let us know where you would need a Navis hat!
